Dr. Guzman Zavala (Dr. Guzman) is a post-doctoral fellow at UCLA’s Hispanic Neuropsychiatric Center of Excellence (HNCE) – Social Justice Criminal Neuropsychology (SJCN) program. He earned his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from Azusa Pacific University, an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral program. Throughout his doctoral training, Dr. Guzman’s primary area of focus has been within the practice of bilingual (Spanish and English) and bicultural neuropsychological assessment and treatment. Dr. Guzman completed a 12-month APA-accredited internship with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation – Correctional Health Care Services, with specialty rotations in the Developmental Disability Program and the LGBTQ+ Clinical Service Unit.
Before Dr. Guzman’s doctoral studies and training, he earned a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology – Marriage and Family Therapy. His thesis research focused on evaluating recidivism rates for individuals charged with a non-violent crime and who were diverted to a community mental health treatment program versus incarceration.
Throughout Dr. Guzman’s graduate studies and training, he has been committed to working with underrepresented and underserved communities. Dr. Guzman is excited to join UCLA’s SJCN post-doctoral training program to continue his commitment to providing equitable and accessible psychological services.
